    Get this from a library! The Prussian race ethnologically considered. Some account of the Blackmore museum. Devizes, H.F. & E. Bull; [etc. William Blackmore was the founder of the Blackmore Museum, which later amalgamated with Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum.

Born in Salisbury, he trained to become a lawyer and lived in Liverpool. This half-length portrait shows him in formal dress, giving the immediate impression of wealth and dignity.

Blackmore gives no feeling of what London may have been like in the period, beyond some discussion of bedbugs in various rooming-houses where John stayed.
